Scoobie Queen!

Yes that's me, cos tonight I finally made a square scoobie without it getting really twisted or just going wrong! I have been really worried about my inability to make scoobies, because little kids of 6 and 7 can make them, and I just couldn't up till now. No matter how many times Roberta showed me, they always went wrong... I got a square, but that square wasn't in line with the one before!

So tonight, we had a little Scoobie session in Youth Club (yea i know it's for the kids but whatever) and Roberta taught me and Karen how to do them, and then...I couldn't as soon as I was on my own. But eventually learnt an easy way of doing it and here's my finished scoobie... dah-dah-dah-dah-dah!


Went to Karen's afterwards for hot chocolate (yum!) and we sat and talked and finished off our scoobies - it was like a knitting circle only with scoobies, i suppose you could call it a scoobie circle...?

I've just realised i think scoobie is actually spelt scoubie! I suppose it doesn't really matter, we all know what we mean!

And at least now I can stand up in a classroom and not be embarassed because I CAN MAKE SCOUBIEDOOS TOO!

Hmmmm...

It seems some people don't like the black as much as the pink...i'm kinda torn, the black isn't as comfy, but I've always been partial to black backgrounds, i remember once in Inters and Craftsmen (part of the now defunct [sob] Campaigners in our Church) doing a photography badge, and we were given card and all, but oh no, I had to go out and buy some black cardboard and some pastel pens to write on it with! Dermo, you might remember that I won the prize....!

I haven't really blogged in a while, been doing some other non-geek things like living my life instead of writing about it... i think it takes a bit of both, if you don't have a life, what have you to write about....? So what have I been doing? Well, on Tuesday, Lisa and I went down to Queens to practise for our quickly approaching Diploma exams, this was scary, cos it seems as if Lisa as been doing a lot more practise than I have!!! I got a parking ticket tho for parking in the wrong place so not so nice! Wednesday was choir where once again I was made to be a tenor - really! I think if my voice drops, i'm gonna sue my music teacher, my voice is low enough as it is, and the reason i was made to be a tenor was that I couldn't reach a high E, for which he said i needed a doctors note...the man is a tyrant! I wish he would leave, then Jayne would be in charge and then everything would be just lovely! On thursday I went to Julie's house for dinner (after eating my own at home) and I cooked the spaghetti for her (just in case anyone didn't hear that on thu nite!) It was a little stuck together because she had no oil, but I thought it tasted all rite! And today I skived Uni :-0 because I had one class from 9 to 10 and I would have spent more time travelling than in the class. So i was very industrious, did my washing, washed my hair, cashed a cheque from the Tax Office (which was very overdue), then went to town and spent all my money!

AND...tonight I made my first scoobie! I think i'm gonna make a new entry about this cos you're prob so bored by now, or you got fed up before now, and it's really very interesting and I've got pictures too...!

No More Pink!

I was gettin a little fed up with the girly-pinky-ness of my blog recently so I've adopted a more neutral background. Haven't got any links etc yet cos I lost all those when I changed the template, but will hopefully get them back up soon! However as you can see, I haven't totally abandoned pink! I don't think any girl ever can, really!

Guy Bitching

Was having a conversation with a friend earlier and we were talking about how guys can be just as bitchy as girls (maybe even worse...) but after thinking about it, realised that because guys just say what they think, out loud, they get it out of their system quicker and that's how guys seem to stay friends even tho they moan about each other! So girls, maybe we should just tell everyone how it is and then we'd all be friends... instead of storing it all up and it becoming a big thing....although chances are that maybe we'd take even more offence that way, maybe it's better just thinking someone doesn't like you than knowing it for definite? I don't know, but i'm thinkin we cud learn from guys just a little bit...

Fat Fountain

I cooked dinner tonite, I fried some sausages and onions, and had beans with it. But the hilarious thing was that when my brother stuck his fork into one of the sausages to put it on his plate, a big stream of some sort of liquid poured out of it for ages, squirting out like a burst pipe or something... I dunno what it was but it looked funny. Suppose if you thought about it it could be quite disgusting.

This has been a day of laughs, cos earlier on in a lecture on reading recovery we were watching a video of a reading lesson - i know it's a sin to laugh at kids, but this wee girl was really funny - her favourite thing was to say 'hmmmm' just like a grown-up, when she was thinking... i suppose you had to be there, but half of the year were giggling away the whole time. Fortunately the lecturer saw the funny! Or we could have all been in trouble!!

This Welsh town on the island of Anglesey is only known due to the fact that it has a very long name, and is the longest railway station name in Britain, and probably the longest domain name in the world.
The name translates as 'St Mary's church in the hollow of the white hazel near a rapid whirlpool and the church of St Tysilio of the red cave'.
Originally called Llanfair Pwllgwyngyll, which means 'The Mary church by the pool near the white hazels' the village was renamed in the 19th Century.
This was around the time when the railway was built between Chester and Holyhead at the beginning of the 1850s. A local committee was put together to try and encourage trains, travellers and 19th Century tourists to stop at the village in order to help develop the village as a commercial and tourist centre. Funderlaaaaaaand!

At last I actually have something interesting to write about! I went out with the girls from Stran tonight for dinner and Funderland. We went to the Bellevue Arms for dinner - I've gotta recommend it - but before that I got a little lost trying to take a shortcut from Great Vic Street to Carlisle Circus; let's just say i was fair to both sides of the community!!!

Funderland was really good craic - I didn't get on any of the upside-down-y rides but I did go on the sizzler and the waltzer (I think that was the best time I've ever had on the waltzer), and I WAS gonna go on the big wheel (anyone who knows me will know how big a deal that was for me - I'm not very adventurous with fairground rides!), but no-one else had any tickets left, so I just went on the dodgems by myself - well, I wasn't the only car, but the only one of my group who got on! The hall of mirrors was hilarious - there was a maze with glass walls so you couldn't tell what were walls and what were spaces - and people from the outside could watch you getting really confused!!

Then we went to Jul's outreach cafe, in the hope of getting some free tea/coffee, but that never happened so i still haven't had a drink!

Hello Everybody!

I have a similar rainbow fetish to Lee-Anne (as seen on her blog MiEscrapacio) although mine is just for Zippy. He is the background for my fone and I have quite a few pictures of my little toy zippy hanging in my car! I only realised recently that Zippy was actually the grumpy one - maybe someone is trying to tell me something...

Anyone who would like to buy me a zippy with sucker feet for my car window is very welcome to. I went thru a phase of wanting a Zippy backpack (you get in through the mouth and the straps are rainbow coloured - OBVIOUSLY!) but I'm sorry to say that phase is over so anyone who bought me one of those recently, you should probably go and get your money back...!!!

on being cultured

Tonight, Lisa and I were very cultured and went to an Ulster Orchestra concert. It was very interesting. I really enjoyed watching the percussion section; the one guy played xylophone and glockenspiel and tubular bells and triangle and woodblock and planks of wood, and sandpaper - and all in the once piece and there were three of these guys all chopping and changing! Will have more news from it later - right now i'm going to watch Fraiser!

Ok, these could possibly have been the two most disastrous days of my life! So I'd been offered the job in Primroses but yesterday had an interview for Next. Looked hopeful and I asked the girl to let me know yesterday so I could get out of the Primroses job. Inbetween times I had what I thought was a 1/2 hour lesson and what my violin teacher thought was an hour's lesson, so it ended up being 3/4 hour leaving me 15mins to get to my lecture, which I was late for! Other disasters included my lessons ending up being 13 quid for half hour (ridiculous) and then obviously 26 for the hour which she would like me to go for! No Way! (well, i have since realised the solution is to go every other week for 1 hr.) When I got to my lecture I couldn't play C major 3 octave scale on the recorder for obvious reasons - I can't play the recorder very well. So I found out at 4.30 that I'd got the Next job, set my file up on top of my car so I could then ring Primroses, who were actually very nice about the whole thing, and went home. At 7.45 I went looking for my file and couldn't find it, then realised what I had OBVIOUSLY done (driven off with it still on my roof, rang security at stran who couldn't find it, and then ended up being late for the woman's meeting. I was pretty bummed about the file cos it's all my 1st 2 weeks notes for every subject.

This morning I had a whithheld phonecall in the middle of my lecture and silly-billy answred it, altho it was just as well as it was halls office saying they'd found my file on the slope out of the carpark.

So, in the end I got my file, and sorted out my violin lesson so I only have one every other week, and then had some retail therapy in town.

Aren't happy endings nice?

The Big Decision

I have decided NOT to go to Denmark on Erasmus. Even after all that lovely advice (the likes of "clear off laura"!) I realised that I didn't want to go on my own cos half the fun of travelling is doing it with other people! I have emailed scary Laurence Siberry and will probably have to avoid her for the rest of my Stranmillis days! But now that I've left myself to be in Stran for ALL of my important 3rd year, I'll have to work really hard to get a good result in my degree! Roll on late nites studying - woohoo! (little bit of sarcasm there!)

On Sunday nite I was accused of being a fella and of joyriding my own car...

Apparently at around 10.30, a neighbour of Statto's foned the police to say that two fellas pulled up near their house in a white micra, abandonded it and ran off. The police checked out my car, then checked who it belonged to and arrived at my house. I wasn't there. Anyway when I got home, it turned out that the two 'fellas' were actually me and my brother, I kinda ran towards Statto's cos it was cold and I couldn't be bothered walking!!!!! Isn't it great to have good neighbours and police? Hopefully if anything ever did happen to my car they'd be just as vigilant!

Pride and Prejudice

I thought it fitting that I should write a portion on the subject of Pride and Prejudice. I first watched all 6 hours of the TV series (v. good), although not all at once! Fell in love with the story and then went to see the new film, which, while not as good (i think) as the original, has a very interesting take on the story. THEN I tried to get the book, which was harder than I thought (do you know that there's some bookshops which only sell modern books???!), until eventually my dad ordered it off amazon.

Well, I've just finished that and it really is amazing. I don't know what anybody else thinks about Pride and Prejudice, but I think it's a lovely story. If only we could all marry men like Mr Darcy, life would be perfect!! I'm thinking that if I had been named Elizabeth Laura, instead of Laura Elizabeth, i might have grown up a little more refined and more like Elizabeth Bennet and therefore more likely to find a Mr Darcy. I feel more like Lydia (without the flirting), so I really hope I don't end up with a Mr Wickham!!

Should I? Shouldn't I?

Still trying to decide whether to spend 3 months away in Denmark in a university where I don't know anybody, on my own, to gain some much needed international experience (and a chance to be REALLY independant) and of course to learn about teaching - oops almost forgot about that bit! I really don't know what to do! Like I want to go but am a little scared, but i'm more scared of Laurence Siberry who is breathing down my neck for a decision! And to be honest i'd be scared to tell her i've changed my mind once again!!! But any pearls of wisdom would be appreciated. (i'm going to try to decide tonite lol!)

I bought a new pair of shoes today. They were a little grubby but they were only going to give me as much discount as my student discount - instead of it as well. So i just opted for student discount so i could take them back if I wanted. But I don't want. I love them. Aren't they pretty?

I just love paisley patterns at the minute, that's why I bought them even though there's only gonna be a few warm-ish days when I can actually wear them!

Ode to a yellow post-it

The humble Post-It (TM) is 25 years old today! The idea originated with an organ player, which is interesting cos lots of the time I use post-its when I'm playing the piano, as well as for loads of other stuff....in fact, how would we ever survive without them?? Every two minutes in work we leave someone a sticky, or stick one on a file with extra information, or use them to mark a page!

Thankyou to Paddy-In-My-Office for sharing that useless information ;-)

Do you think you can outwalk me?

I walked 3994 steps today.

My boss gave me a stepometer, I think he got it free somewhere!

I'm gonna give a count of how many steps i've walked each day, just like Bridget Jones did with how many pounds she'd lost. Just for the fun of it. And only up to 99, 999 cos that's all the far my stepometer counts to.

My MOT is due Saturday week. All i need is a new exhaust - well i hope i can say ALL i need is that, and that it's not going to cost very much. Otherwise I might end up really poor and not be able to afford my insurance...

Aww... poor me!

On a brighter note, I found these wee titchy tiny bags that I've been looking for for ages. They're good for putting buttons and stuff in cos they're that tiny. Go to Ballyclare to get all your stationery needs, I can't say It's much good for anything else (except Bob's electric!) but it has good stationery, and it has a Boots which is more than I can say for Carrickfergus...

Yucky Monday

It's not really yucky, it's actually very nice outside, but that's the very thing that makes it yucky - cos I'm inside. Working. Yuk!

Just for the fun of it, when I was on Coleraine Camp, I thot it would be cool to see if I could fit into a baby swing...

I went to see the Island last nite...

It was very good actually. I only went cos Lisa wanted to, and I didn't think I'd like it, but apart from a few bits where I had to close my eyes (I don't like gore or operations stuff) I really liked it!

Had dinner with the girls first as well in Springsteens. I ordered chicken sizzling fajitas and they were very nice! Got far more food than I cud eat tho - do you think it would be better if in The Steens you could order small meals and pay less? Maybe we should start a petition for Springsteens to have regular, medium and super-size meals (the latter being the current size!)???? Comments please!

Whistle while you work...

Well, yesterday I whistled while I was doing the dishes in work but I felt a little self-conscious so I stopped!

Today has been really hectic - I have five in-boxes on my desk, all for different things and none of the piles seem to be going down!

My Favourite Movies

On the note of movies, I was listening to my Shrek Soundtrack tonite. Shrek has the best background music EVER. It's also a pretty good film too. My favourite is Shrek, the original, but Shrek 2 is pretty good too!

My other favourite film (as some of you may know....Gayle!) is Sweet Home Alabama! Such a sweet little story. One that always cheers me up!

Right now I'm sitting in my living room trying NOT to watch Volcano because I don't like disaster movies but it's very hard cos everyone else is.

Have just been talking to the [inseparable?] sisters, Lisa and Lee-Anne, who, nevertheless have blocked each other on msn and aren't talking to each other....I think it may have something to do with the phrase 'HIYA', in caps, just like that...wierd if you ask me!!! (well, you think I'D have normal friends????)

I am playing at my first wedding (well ok, my first on the piano) tomorrow. I'm a little bit apprehensive, not about playing in front of everybody, sure i do that every week at church, just at playing classical, it's not like you can make up the chords that go wrong like you can in hymns!!! But it'll be ok.

Because

Tomorrow night I'm going on the SWOT weekend which should be absolutely crackers! We are going to Downhill Youth Hostel which is very scenic and is near the beach which is a very good thing, because then we can build sandcastles and jump off cliffs and bury each other in the sand......oh sorry let's just whizz forward 15 years and become the age I actually am......nope, I'm still building sandcastles and jumping off cliffs (only very small ones), but I think I might forget the burying in the sand, would never get the sand out of my hair!!!

Lisa and I have decided to only take one pair of straightners and one hairdryer between us, her straighteners because my plates only come together at one end when I close them. Lisa has just told me that hers went on fire a wee while ago, but I am reliably informed that they are suitably fixed and won't burn my hair to a cinder...yikes!

Well, I'd better go because my mum's just made buns and I have to taste them (under pressure of course...)

That Friday Feeling

Hooray it's Friday! Yesterday I lost my Staff Card/Carparking pass inside my car somewhere (that I can't get to!) And also got strange looks from passing guys today as I had my bonnet up looking for it (yes, I do know where my bonnet is and how to get into it and where everything is!!!!) But it is not within the realms of 'under the bonnet', rather it is behind the plastic panneling that hides the radio etc. I decided that it was worth the £10 to get a new card, not to have to go poking round the electrics in my car!!

Tonight I am going to New Horizon. Didn't get there on Wed nite as you needed tickets for the Celidh (how was I supposed to know?) and they were all sold out (sob sob!). So me and Laura W went to Glengormley cinema instead to watch Wedding Crashers. It wasn't as good as I thought it would be, but a lot better than some made it out to be lol!

Again I am in work with nothing to do. It kinda sucks, cos I wish they'd just send me home and pay me!

Long Time No Write!

How bad am I at keeping this blog up-to-date? I haven't written in it since the 7th July! What have I done since then? Let me see....

Well, last thu nite I went to Abbeycentre and bought myself a gorgeous new Radley purse (It's red with a wee green dog on the front) and a pair of pyjamas.

Didn't really do much on Fri nite. Saturday went to Carrick with Louise and Steven, no chance of feeling gooseberry there, we kinda left Steven out...lol! We went to the Carrick Museum (so good it's free....;-)) and learnt a few things like there was a friary in Carrick, that was bigger than St Nicks! then on Saturday nite we went to Statto's for what was supposed to be a walk but we ended up sitting at the Marina watching Mark and Claire and Luke eat McDonalds and occasionally joining in!

Sunday nite, the group which i'm not allowed to call SWOT (swot is our bible studies apparently) so i'll call it the Sunday Nite Social Group (SNSG for short) went for a walk at Brown's Bay. The footpath was flooded so the more adventurous of us went to the beach while others watched. I made the mistake of going to the beach and getting pushed into the sea. By dermo. Except it was really Lee-Anne's fault for not grabbing the right arm for us to push HIM into the sea!!!! We also did things like poke jelly-fish and turn over crabs to see if they were dead.

On Monday I got a surprise afternoon off work, so me and Rach went to Junction 1 to get craft stuff for Coleraine. Had a really good time, afterwards went to Kim and Trev's and then went to see the bonfires (good stuff!)

On Tuesday afternoon went down to the park with Mark and Claire and Dermo and Luke to decide what to do, after 2 hrs we decided to go to Brown's Bay to have a fire and toast some marshmallows which was nice. Although the smoke from the fire made me look like I was crying.....

I went to town yesterday (this entry is getting more and more boring as it goes along!) and today is back to work. Will maybe make some 15's later for the Coleraine Camp..... (i suppose if i'm asking every1 else to give me buns I should at least make one batch myself!!)

Haven't blogged in a bit, so thot i'd catch up on what you all missed...

Was very taken with my Artists' Pass on Monday nite, made me feel really important!!!! The TearFund Tent was the trendiest of them all, so well done to all those people like Sarah Cavan who made it!! I'm wondering where I can get the brick wall wallpaper....?

I've also decided to name my car. I have had it for more than 6 months and it hasn't got a name. How rude of me! I had thought Daisy....what do you think? Ideas please (now remember my car is sensitive and is easily offended!)

Since I couldn't get Lisa (one of my many friends to get a fabulous 2:1 in their degree) a Physiologist mug (they have them for about every other profession) i thought i would try to get the woman in Thornton's to write it on a bar of chocolate. Am very lucky didn't end up with "Liza the Fizzylogist" !!!! That was my lunchtime!

Better go put more in my space, it's kind of bare apart from the blog, so needs a bit of updating!
